We’re a driving force in the communities we serve.
A great company is also a great citizen. Our goal is to be a catalyst for positive change within our community and beyond. Led by the generous and optimistic vision of Melfred Borzall past President Dick Melsheimer, we do this by investing purposefully, with a focus on projects and organizations that encourage young people to explore opportunities in Engineering and Manufacturing.
We promote engineering and manufacturing skills and opportunities for youth in our community and beyond. Melfred Borzall employees give hands on demonstrations of welding at career days for schools throughout the California central coast. Students are instructed in safe practices and given the opportunity to try arc welding and create a small project. In 2016 we demonstrated at 15 area schools for over 2000 students.
Our commitment to education reaches beyond our local community. In a partnership with the Salvation Army and the Templeton Rotary Club, Melfred Borzall helped purchase equipment to start a Vocational Welding program at a boys orphanage in Viacha, Bolivia. The goal is to give the boys a marketable trade by the time they leave the orphanage.
Melfred Borzall proudly supports US First, VEX and First Lego League robotics at several local schools. These are fantastic programs that promote engineering, manufacturing, teamwork and problem solving. Several of these teams have competed at the National and World level! Many of our summer interns are robotics program veterans and have skills and experience to make them immediately productive.
Melfred Borzall works closely with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Allan Hancock College, supporting engineering and manufacturing programs at both of these outstanding schools. Our employees teach at these schools and are on Industry Advisory Boards. We provide real world settings for engineering senior projects. We offer paid summer internships for engineering and manufacturing students and host externships where faculty work with Melfred Borzall engineers to see current industry practices and share their expertise.
Thanks again for the opportunity of being a part of Melfred Borzall this summer. I learned lots and enjoyed all of it! Thank you for granting me the opportunity to work and learn from a wonderful company!
